Somali Youth Inspirational and Dinner Night: Empowering the Future

On Friday, 11th October 2024, the Jubba Youth Community Association successfully organised the Somali Youth Inspirational and Dinner Night, an event designed to inspire and empower Somali youth in Islington. Held at LIFT, White Lion, Angel from 18:00 to 21:00, the evening brought together 20 young participants, guest speakers, and role models from diverse professional backgrounds to motivate and connect with the younger generation.

The Purpose of the Event

The aim of the evening was simple yet powerful: to inspire Somali youth, connect them with positive role models, and provide a platform for networking and community building. We wanted to create a space where young people aged 16-25 could see what’s possible for their future, gain insights from those who have succeeded, and build relationships that will help them achieve their goals.

Guest Speakers

The evening featured inspiring speeches from:

  • Yonis Adow- Doctor
  • Mohamed Abukar – Immigration and Family Lawyer
  • Jibril A- Data Analyst at HM Land Registry
  • Sakariye Hassan – Youth Employment at Islington Council
  • Amin Husein – Chairman of Jubba Youth Community Association

Our guest speakers shared their stories of overcoming challenges, achieving personal and professional success, and emphasised the importance of education, mentorship, and community involvement. Their experiences and advice resonated deeply with the youth, offering inspiration and practical insights into how to navigate life’s challenges and build a successful future.

An Evening of Connection and Growth

The event wasn’t just about speeches; it was also an opportunity for networking. The youth were encouraged to engage with the guest speakers and fellow attendees, building connections that could help them in their future careers and personal development. The importance of creating a strong network was a recurring theme throughout the night, with speakers highlighting how valuable it is to surround oneself with supportive and like-minded individuals.

Dinner and Networking

To conclude the evening, attendees enjoyed a three-course Somali meal catered by the Somali Cousin Restaurant. The dinner break allowed for informal conversations, providing a relaxed atmosphere where the youth could ask questions, seek advice, and engage with their peers and the guests.

Conclusion

The Somali Youth Inspirational and Dinner Night was a great success, marking just the beginning of many more opportunities to engage, inspire, and uplift the youth in our community. At the Jubba Youth Community Association, we are committed to continuing our efforts in creating spaces for growth, learning, and inspiration.

We look forward to future events that will further connect Somali youth with the resources and networks they need to thrive.
